WEEK 30th – LISTENING, READING, AND WRITING ABOUT CURRENT ACTIONS
PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

PROPÓSITO:

To improve students speaking, reading & writing comprehension abilities (Mejorar las capacidades de comprensión oral, lectora y producción de textos).

COMPETENCIA: Students can listen, read, and understand written texts using English as a foreign language. (Escuchan, leen y comprenden textos orales y escritos en inglés como lengua extranjera)

CAPACIDAD:

1.Students manage vocabulary given in English. (Comprenden y manejan el vocabulario dado).

2.Students recognize main ideas and make explanations about by basic structures given assertively. (Reconocen ideas principales y comentan sobre ellas o responden preguntas de manera asertiva).

3.Students recognize and use regular verb forms in the present continuous with accuracy. Los estudiantes reconocen y usan formas irregulares de los verbos en pasado con un mínimo de error. Comparan entre las acciones del presente y el pasado.

GRAMMAR EXPLANATION:

Present continuous

Level: beginner

The present continuous is made from the present tense of the verb be and the –ing form of a verb:

Present continuous affirmative

I               am          working

You         are          playing

He           is             talking

She         is             living

It             is            eating

We         are          staying

They       are sleeping

Present continuous questions

We make questions by putting am, is or are in front of the subject:

Are         you         listening?

Are         they        coming to your party?

When     is            she going home?

What      am          I doing here?

Present continuous negatives

We make negatives by putting not (or n't) after am, is or are:

I'm          not                         doing that.

You         aren't                     listening.

(or You're not listening.)

They       aren't                     coming to the party.

(or They're not coming to the party.)

She         isn't                        going home until Monday.

 (or She's not going home until Monday.)

1.      Read the following text carefully.


  It’s a rainy Saturday. It’s raining a lot and Mary and her family are spending the afternoon at home. Her uncles are visiting them.

   Mary and her father are in the living room. Mary is making a draw and her father, Mr. Harris, is surfing the net. They are also talking.

   Mary’s older brother, Peter, is in his bedroom playing computer games. He is a computer fanatic, and he spends much time playing on the computer. His little brother, Jim is also in the living room. He is playing with his dinosaurs’ collection. Sometimes he teases Mary, he is a really naughty boy.

  


Mary’s mother, Mrs. Harris, is in the kitchen preparing a snack for all of them. She is making some tea and talking to Mary’s uncles – Lucy and Tom. They are from the nearest town and stopped by to say hello.

   Fluffy, the family cat, is sleeping on the kitchen’s sofa. We can’t see him in the picture, but he is a true fluffy cat.
